The Kelp Ring
Silver Feather Ring
Shown here in sterling silver. Also available in 14k yellow or white gold.
Like all of my cast rings, this kelp ring is handmade from my own hand-carved wax. I do not buy waxes from production wholesalers.
The ring is about 5mm wide, and weighs 8.5 grams in a size 10 in 14k gold.
What is Kelp?
Kelp is a large seaweed that grows in cold ocean waters. Giant kelp thrives in the rocky shore of the Pacific ocean along the coast of central and northern California and in the Monterey Bay, not far from my studio. It can grow from depths of as much as 90 feet. The plant clings to the rocky bottom with root-like structures and sends long streamers up toward the surface. Gas bladders grow near the leaves and help keep the plant upright. Huge kelp forests form thick canopies of beautiful waving fronds, and are home to a large number of fish as well as sea otters.
